This state could be the historical capital of the U.S., from the shores where pilgrims built some of the country's first communities to the streets and battlefields of the Revolutionary War to other famous spots like Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket and the New England epicenter of Boston.

But don't overlook the state's many parks and trails, including the renowned Appalachian Trail, which make outdoor adventuring, well, an adventure. For those that love the water, aquatic sporting is easily found as well.
